AMC Theatres is dropping its “Sightline” pricing plan that charges different prices for specific seats, introducing lounge-style front row seating

AMC Theatres has dropped its “Sightline” pricing structure and plans to introduce chairs that fully recline to front rows.

While food and gas prices continue to oscillate between miraculously doable to positively insane, your wallet could take less of a hit while attending a film screening at AMC Theatres. The days of preferred seating without breaking the bank are back because AMC is dropping its “Sightline” pricing structure. “Sightline” was the venue’s way of charging guests for different seating locations. AMC announced the “Sightline” pricing strategy in February, much to the dismay of frequent moviegoers. The plan set higher prices for the best seats in each theater and lower costs for seats closest to the screen. AMC will end the program in a few weeks, with a new program taking its place.

“Beginning in late 2023, AMC will begin testing its newest seating concept,” the company said. “Large, comfortable lounge style seating areas will allow guests to lay all the way back and relax. The angle of the seats will also make it more enjoyable to watch movies from these front row seats closest to the screen.”

Wait. Are people who sit in the front row getting beds? This seating structure could invite unwanted “napccidents” or PDA platforms for spicy guests. Then again, it’s likely a new way to lounge instead of craning your neck or suffering eye strain.

AMC Theatres says the Sightline” pricing plan wasn’t a failure. However, since guests were okay with paying extra for their ideal seats, spots at the front of the theater remained the same, more or less. The new plan is AMC’s way of “ensuring ticket prices stay competitive.”

What do you think of AMC Theatres changing its seating plans again? Would seats that recline all the way back encourage you to sit at the front of the theater? I’m a top-row moviegoer, but I know plenty of people who prefer to sit closer to the action. With D-Box seating taking priority at the top row of high-end cinemas and fully-reclining chairs occupying the front row, trips to the theater certainly have changed in recent times.

Would you be willing to sit at the front of the theater if your seats permit you to lie down? Do you tend to fall asleep during movies if you’re too comfortable? Let us know in the comments section.
