Kate Mckinnon’s Weird Barbie Doll from Greta Gerwig’s smash-hit film is available to pre-order from Mattel for a limited time!
Barbie fever is sweeping the nation, and Mattel is seizing every opportunity to cash in on the success of Greta Gerwig’s multi-million dollar earning film! Suppose you’re new to the concept of Gerwig’s latest film. In that case, Barbie revolves around Margot Robbie’s character experiencing an existential crisis in a world overpopulated with different Ken and Barbie personas. In Barbie World, Barbie diplomats, scientists, mermaids, artists, and Supreme Court Justice members rule the beach alongside a multiverse of Kens who love to party. Still, one Barbie is stranger than the rest, Kate McKinnon‘s Weird Barbie. Mattel is aware of the character’s popularity, and now they’re introducing an official Weird Barbie doll inspired by McKinnon’s character.
In the film America Ferrera’s Gloria meets McKinnon’s disfigured Barbie. The character sports a mismatched outfit, a radical hairstyle, and face tattoos in the way of marker scribbles and stickers. She can easily do the splits thanks to intense play times, and believe me when I tell you; she’s seen some things and some stuff, man.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly about Weird Barbie’s physicality, Gerwig credits production designer Sarah Greenwood with aspects of McKinnon’s physical performance.
“Sarah who did the set design was like, ‘I’ve made all these holes in the wall where she can put her real leg in, and then we’ll rig the other leg up,’” Gerwig said. “It was like a practical effect.”
Mattel’s Weird Barbie is available for pre-order until August 18. Here’s an official description of the limited edition doll:
If anyone knows anything about keeping it weird, it’s Weird Barbie, a breakout character from Barbie The Movie. Our doll version wears an outfit inspired by one you’ll see in the feature film, a bright pink dress with colorful artwork and puffy sleeves, and green snakeskin boots. She also features short tousled hair and markings on her face to emulate a doll that’s been played with just a little too much.

I have the most intense Barbie FOMO right now. Though not for lack of trying, I’ve yet to see the film. Every showing in my area is sold out, save for the front row, where I refuse to sit. I’m thrilled the film is doing so well. Still, I need people to do something else for an evening and leave me and my partner two seats in the top row. Let’s make it happen, Universe!
