The creature designers at Odd Studio have shared images of the Marauder creature from Evil Dead Rise – which is now on physical media

As of today, Evil Dead Rise (read our review HERE) has been given a physical media release, and you can order copies of the film on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K UHD at THIS LINK. And now that those physical media copies have been secured, let’s celebrate by checking out some behind-the-scenes images of the creature known as The Marauder that have been shared by the monster designers at Odd Studio!

If you haven’t watched Evil Dead Rise yet, beware SPOILERS.

If you have already watched Evil Dead Rise, you know that – as of the end of the film draws near – several of the Deadites merge together into one multi-limbed creature. This blend of Deadites was called The Marauder, and Odd Studio has shared some images of the design:

Evil Dead franchise creator Sam Raimi handpicked Lee Cronin to write and direct a new Evil Dead movie after seeing his feature directorial debut The Hole in the Ground. The story Cronin crafted for Evil Dead Rise has the following synopsis: A road-weary Beth pays an overdue visit to her older sister Ellie, who is raising three kids on her own in a cramped L.A apartment. The sisters’ reunion is cut short by the discovery of a mysterious book deep in the bowels of Ellie’s building, giving rise to flesh-possessing demons, and thrusting Beth into a primal battle for survival as she is faced with the most nightmarish version of motherhood imaginable.

Although the film is set in Los Angeles, filming actually took place in New Zealand. Lily Sullivan and Alyssa Sutherland star as the estranged sisters at the heart of the story. Gabrielle Echols, Morgan Davies, and Nell Fisher play Ellie’s three kids.

Bruce Campbell doesn’t have an on-screen acting role in Evil Dead Rise, as he has formally retired from playing Evil Dead franchise hero Ash, but he did produce the movie alongside Raimi and Rob Tapert. Campbell, Raimi, and Tapert hold the rights to the overall franchise. Evil Dead Rise is a collaboration between Warner Bros., New Line Cinema, and Ghost House Pictures.

Within the story of Evil Dead Rise, I didn’t think much of The Marauder. I didn’t understand why the Deadites would form together like that, especially since they didn’t seem to benefit from it very much. In fact, it just made it easier to defeat them, since they could all be taken out at once. But the design of the creature was quite cool; disgusting, and reminiscent of John Carpenter’s The Thing.
