Directed by Ariel Martínez Herrera, who also crafted the screenplay with Santiago La Rosa, Lautaro Núñez de Arco, Luz Orlando Brennan, and Santiago Podestá, Toxic has the following synopsis: In the middle of a mysterious insomnia epidemic that slowly takes on catastrophic dimensions, Laura and Augusto flee the city in their motor-home to get away from the chaos. As they move down the route, the world becomes an increasingly strange and dangerous place. Finally, Laura reveals a story that changes everything. The road is depopulating, the silence grows and it is increasingly difficult to differentiate the reality from the dream.
The film stars Jazmín Stuart, Agustín Rittano, Victoria Cabada, Sebastián Carbone, Marcelo D’Andrea, Miriam Elizabeth de Luca, Betiana Frías, Martín Garabal, Lucila Garay, Francisco Gutiérrez, Alejandro Jovic, Carlos Lin, Lucila Mangone, Silvia Estela Mierez, Marcelo Mininno, Claudio Molfino, Gabriel Horacio Pallero, Santiago Podestá, Jorge Prado, Mario Rímolo, Roberto Oscar Stuer, and Julio César Wright.
Toxic is considered to be Herrera’s feature directorial debut, although his IMDb page mentions that he directed another feature called Alas (pobre Jiménez) ten years earlier. He has also worked as a producer, actor, and cinematographer, and has written and directed multiple short films. He also wrote and directed episodes of the shows Famoso and Aventuras de Corazón Roto.
