Musician Slash is teaming up with genre producer Steven Schneider on a horror film called Janus, the first of a slate Schneider is working on
On July 11th, a horror film called The Breach – which was executive produced by legendary musician Slash, who also co-produced the score – will be getting a VOD and digital release in the United States. And Variety reports that Slash has already lined up his next horror project: he’s teaming with Steven Schneider of Room 101, Inc. and Spooky Pictures – a producer whose genre credits include Paranormal Activity, Blair Witch, and Old – for a film called Janus.
Jason Zada (The Forest) will be directing Janus from a screenplay he wrote with Nate Atkins. The story centers on three band members seeking refuge in an old farmhouse where they encounter a woman harboring an unspeakable secret.
Alex Neustaedter (American Rust), Natalie Alyn Lind (Big Sky), Jack Kilmer (Lords of Chaos), Grace Van Dien (Stranger Things), and M.C. Gainey (Con Air) have already been cast in the film.
Slash and Schneider are producing Janus with Joe Heath – and Variety notes that Slash will “bring his musical expertise and oversight to the film.” Also producing are D.C. Cassidy, Michael Fisk, and Julia Wang Zhu of Malkier Studios, a company that was formed with the intention of “creating IP driven horror, animation and thriller content.”
Janus is the first of several genre projects Schneider and Malkier are planning to make together. The second on their development slate is The Worthless Remains, which will give “a terrifying new spin to a historical trauma.” Director X. (Superfly) will be taking the helm of that one, working from a script by Micah Ranum. Ranum is producing The Worthless Remains with Schneider and his Spooky Pictures partner Roy Lee.
Cassidy provided the following statement: “We’re thrilled to be working with Schneider and Roy, two of the most successful horror producers of all time. Their track record – and box-office receipts – speak for themselves. But more importantly, they have the creative vision to see these films to success. We plan on building a long and fruitful relationship with Room 101 and Spooky Pictures and are honored to be part of this dynamic collaboration.“
Schneider added: “Producing a horror slate with innovators such as Jason Zada and Director X. is a nightmare come true. These stories are fresh and exciting, and I can’t wait to see them realized in collaboration with Malkier Studios. Together, I’m confident we’ll elevate the genre to new heights.“
Janus is expected to start filming in Puerto Rico later this year.
