MaXXXine: Mia Goth views the X sequel as a superhero movie

Mia Goth says that she views Ti West’s MaXXXine as a superhero movie, explaining how her character has grown since the first movie.

Production is underway on MaXXXine, the third film of Ti West’s X trilogy starring Mia Goth, and the actress told SFX Magazine that she views the new sequel as a “superhero movie.

I see MaXXXine as a superhero movie – that’s how I read the script,” Mia Goth said. “Maxine, as a character, has come a long way. She’s a survivor, she’s gone through a lot. When we meet her again, in this new world that she’s in, she’s really fought for everything that she has, and she’s not about to give that up. She’s going to fight for what she has. She’s a badass. There’s a strength to her. And she’s a really proactive, determined, focused woman. She goes after what she wants, and she’s not really going to take no for an answer.

Mia Goth played the dual role of Maxine Minx/Pearl in Ti West’s X and reprised the role of Pearl for the prequel movie. West has even said that Goth should have received an Oscar nomination for her performance. The third movie will pick up with Maxine as she “continues her journey towards fame, setting out to make it as an actress in 1980s Los Angeles.” In addition to Mia Goth, MaXXXine boasts a cast which includes Elizabeth Debicki, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Lily Collins, Halsey, Moses Summney, Giancarlo Esposito, and Kevin Bacon.

Speaking of superhero movies, it was recently announced that Mia Goth would be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She’s set to star alongside Mahershala Ali in Blade for Marvel Studios. It’s not known who Goth will be playing in the movie, but rumours have been making the rounds (via Jeff Sneider of The Hit Mic podcast) that she will be playing Lilith Drake, Dracula’s daughter.

Yann Demange (White Boy Rick) is set to direct the Blade movie, with Michael Starrbury (When They See Us) penning the script. The character of Blade was originally created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan for The Tomb of Dracula #10 in 1973. Blade is a half-mortal, half-immortal who hunts vampires in order to avenge his mother, who was killed by a vampire as she gave birth to him. Bassam Tariq (Mogul Mowgli) was originally attached to direct Blade, but he wound up stepping down last year, leaving Marvel to push pause on pre-production while they searched for a replacement.
