The Flash director says working with Ezra Miller was one of his best experiences with an actor

After months of tabloid headlines and scandals, there were fears that Ezra Miller’s actions could tank The Flash, but director Andy Muschietti told Deadline that working with Miller was “definitely one of my best experiences with an actor in my whole career.

I knew it from the movies I’ve seen with them. It wasn’t until I met them, that I realized that they were an impeccable comedian as well,” Andy Muschietti said of Ezra Miller. “Given that there’s lot of levity and humor in this story, there’s this odd couple we created with the original Barry (Allen) and the young Barry, and they have these differences which makes them a couple at odds. They created such an amazing, not only a depiction of each of them, but just the ability to switch from one character to the other.

As Andy Muschietti mentioned, Ezra Miller played dual roles in The Flash, which required a lot of work and planning, but the actor was more than prepared. “Truly the commitment, the discipline, the humor, the fun, the excitement of doing this for them; for them it was an opportunity,” Muschietti said. “For years, Ezra has been an obscure actor, because they were doing a lot of independent movies. This is a movie that portrays their full abilities as a performer.

It remains to be seen if there will be a place for Ezra Miller in the new DC Universe, but Andy Muschietti seems confident that Miller will return to The Flash if there’s a sequel. “If [a sequel] happens, yes,” Muschietti said. “I don’t think there’s anyone that can play that character as well as they did. The other depictions of the character are great, but this particular vision of the character, they just excelled in doing it. And, as you said, the two Barrys – it feels like a character that was made for them.

Worlds collide in The Flash when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past,” reads the official synopsis of The Flash. “But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?

The Flash will hit theaters on June 16th.
