The tag-alongs from Hell return as John Cena and Lil Rel Howery co-star in the sequel to the 2021 Hulu hit movie.
In the wake of Dwayne Johnson’s successful transition into a film career, following suit are fellow former wrestlers-turned-actors, Dave Bautista and John Cena. Cena has made a name for himself in the comedy world being in such films as Trainwreck, Blockers, and Vacation Friends from 20th Century Studios. The response to Vacation Friends was overwhelmingly positive for the Hulu comedy, so they now bring us a look at the upcoming sequel to the smash hit.Vacation Friends 2 reteams Director Clay Tarver with stars John Cena, Lil Rel Howery, Yvonne Orji and Meredith Hagner. This entry adds Carlos Santos, Ronny Chieng, Jamie Hector, and Steve Buscemi to the ensemble.
The official synopsis reads,
“Picking up a few months after the end of “Vacation Friends,” this uproarious sequel finds newly married couple Marcus (Howery) and Emily (Orji) inviting their uninhibited besties Ron (Cena) and Kyla (Hagner), who are also newly married and have a baby, to join them for a vacation when Marcus lands an all-expenses-paid trip to a Caribbean resort. His reason for traveling there in the first place is to meet with the owners of the resort to bid on a construction contract for a hotel they own in Chicago. But when Kyla’s incarcerated father Reese (Buscemi) is released from San Quentin and shows up at the resort unannounced at the worst possible moment, things get out of control, upending Marcus’ best laid plans and turning the vacation friends’ perfect trip into total chaos.”
The next chapter to the 2021 comedy is due to hit the streaming platform on August 25. It will be exclusively streaming on Hulu, Star+ in Latin America, and Disney+ under the Star banner in the rest of the territories. The producers for the film are Todd Garner and Stuart Besser. Vacation Friends 2 was originally developed under the title, Honeymoon Friends, after the first had a strong debut on Hulu. The movie quickly became the most-watched original film in its opening weekend for the streaming service. So, it’s natural the studio would want to capitalize on its popularity, as well as the current hot status of star John Cena, set to return to the Fast & Furious series in Fast X this summer. As well as the popular comedian Lil Rel Howrey, who is known for his appearances in Get Out and Free Guy.
