Tech Giant: Data and Google
Google Inc. announced their plans today to invest $5 billion in an advanced data center located in Phoenix, Arizona as part of their global expansion.
The new center, set to open February 1, 2023, will cover an impressive 700,000 square feet and be home for more than 2,000 employees. A significant investment includes $1 billion toward AI technology development for data processing optimization.
Sundar Pichai, Google's CEO, explained, "Through this investment we are expanding both our infrastructure and pioneering advanced AI solutions. This data center stands as testament to Google's technological leadership."
Technical details of the project reveal that Google will utilize cutting-edge deep learning technology at their data center to expand data processing capabilities, including real-time analytics, cloud computing storage solutions, machine learning operations and real-time machine translation operations. Construction on this facility will begin early March 2022 and should be complete by late January 2023 - once operational this should significantly enhance Google's data processing abilities.
This announcement follows a heated race within the tech industry, in which companies are making concerted investments into data infrastructure to keep up with an anticipated global data creation of 163 zettabytes by 2025 according to IDC studies.
"Google's investment exemplifies an increasing trend of tech giants investing heavily in data center infrastructure," noted tech industry analyst Laura Martin. It is an essential move to accommodate for the exponential expansion of digital data.
Microsoft Corporation also recently made headlines when they pledged $4 billion towards expanding their data centers throughout America.
Peter Lynch of Market Analyst stated this week in my coverage, that tech titans are competing to lead an estimated $200 billion market by 2025 and investing like Google is sending a message they intend on being leaders."
Google's new data center should significantly boost their data processing abilities and enable the company to better meet the demands of 2 billion active users, setting the stage for further advanced AI offerings from this tech titan.
James Hamilton of Gartner noted, "Google's investment will undoubtedly have far reaching ramifications on the industry and beyond; not just limited data processing solutions but rather towards advanced artificial intelligence solutions in future".
Google plans on hiring over 2,000 additional staffers for its Phoenix campus starting April 1, 2022, commencing recruitment across all 50 United States.
